One of the oldest forms of traditional medicine, Moxibustion is a specialised branch of Traditional East Asian Medicine often used to complement acupuncture treatment. It involves the strategic application of heat to the body surface, commonly through the burning of shaped ‘moxa’ tinder. The tinder is made from the dried leaves of Artemisia Vulgaris, harvested in summer and ground into a workable consistency. It may be applied on or near the skin. Its purpose in treatment is to resolve tissue abnormalities or balance/ improve the overall body condition.
