Fine acupuncture needles are first-class tools for delivering physical medicine. Their successful use hinges on Adam’s refined palpation skill and the ability to adapt to the unique circumstances of each patient. Acupuncture is NOT merely the insertion of needles into defined acupoints but rather the treatment of tissues where the shape, feel and movement of the body has been distorted by pain or disease. Patients should expect thorough examination of the problem area, but also where appropriate, broader investigation into the context underpinning their symptoms.
Moxibustion is a specialized branch of Traditional East Asian Medicine often used to complement acupuncture treatment. It involves the strategic application of heat to the body surface, commonly through the burning of shaped ‘moxa’ tinder. The tinder is made from the dried leaves of Artemisia
Vulgaris, harvested in summer and ground into a workable consistency. It may be applied on or near the skin. Its purpose in treatment is to resolve tissue abnormalities or balance/ improve the overall body condition.
